DRAPER CITY FLEET MANAGER in DRAPER, Utah

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Public Works Operations Manager, the Fleet Manager is responsible for the operation of the Fleet division, which includes supervising and overseeing a team of mechanics, budget preparation and management, and coordinating the acquisition, repair, maintenance, disposal, replacement, and tracking of all fleet vehicles and equipment. Additionally, manages the overall parts inventory and operations, customer interface, and implementing strategies to enhance shop productivity and efficiency.

  • Supervises staff assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Supervises fleet operations, prioritizes repairs, and streamlines workflow.
  • Tracks mechanic hours working on various vehicle and equipment assets; thoroughly monitors, reviews, and approves employee time records.
  • Ensures efficient use of resources to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
  • Prepares and manages budget, monitors expenses and income, and reviews and administers all purchases.
  • Adheres to the procurement process for fleet vehicles, heavy machinery, equipment, and supplies, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.
  • Oversees parts inventory, maintains detailed records, and manages stock levels; optimizes spending on parts, tools, supplies, and services to meet operational needs within budgetary constraints.
  • Meticulously updates and maintains an accurate and detailed fleet asset inventory.
  • Strategizes asset management to maximize value and minimize costs.
  • Handles surplus vehicles efficiently, including disposal and reallocation.
  • Coordinates maintenance scheduling, ensures data accuracy, and implements preventive maintenance plans.
  • Addresses vehicle-related issues and resolves complaints promptly.
  • Generates and distributes comprehensive fleet management reports.
  • Ensures adherence to regulations and policies governing fuel usage and reporting; manages city fuel card usage, reviews monthly state issued fuel bill for accuracy and compliance, and addresses any policy violations with appropriate department director via written notification.
  • Cultivates strong relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure seamless operations.
  • Establishes and enforces safety protocols; conducts routine inspections and assessments to mitigate risks and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Provides strong leadership, guidance, and support to fleet personnel; evaluates staff skills, identify training needs, provides ongoing technical training and development opportunities; encourages teamwork, collaboration, and professional growth, creating a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Makes informed decisions by analyzing data to identify trends, develops and implements strategic initiatives for fleet optimization, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Stays informed about industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in fleet management.
  • Monitors key performance indicators, gather data, and report on fleet performance to senior management; makes recommendations for improvements and adjustments based on performance metrics and insights.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education -- High school diploma or G.E.D. Bachelor's degree in logistics, accounting, public administration, business administration, automotive technology or related field preferred. A combination of experience and education may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience -- Five years of progressively responsible supervisory and management experience in fleet management or similar field or any equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates possession of the required knowle dge, skills and abilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Tasks require a variety of physical activities. Regularly required to talk, hear, see, walk, sit, stand, reach, use hands/finger to feel, handle, and grip, climb or balance and stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. May be confined to small spaces to perform work. Regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. (Performance of duties may require working in varied weather conditions such as extreme cold or hot conditions.) Frequent exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and dusty or greasy conditions. Frequent exposure to high levels of noise. Operate equipment and drive vehicles. Must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
