Summary This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1195000 and is part of CSMS located in Draper UT, with the Utah Army National Guard. IAW UTNGR 690-12 dated AUG 2022 and LIUNA-UTARNG CBA dated 11 OCT 2022, Priority will be given to all current, onboard employees of the UTARNG. The selecting supervisor for this vacancy is W01 SAMUEL WESTWOOD. Responsibilities Major Duties: This is not an all-inclusive list As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-5801-11, you will: Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repair on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles. Troubleshoots, repairs and/or overhauls, as a regular and recurring duty, a variety of the mechanically complex major systems to include internal combustion engines, turbine engines, automatic and non-automatic transmissions, heavy duty drive line systems, and hydraulic utility systems and controls, cross drive or similar multi-system transmissions and a variety of intricate fuel injection systems. Makes repairs and modifications to assemblies and components such as voltage regulators, generators/alternators, brake cylinders, etc., for use or placement in systems for which they were not specifically designed. Troubleshoots equipment with a variety of the mechanically complex major systems and diagnoses difficult performance problems and the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks, uses test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges and computer diagnostic tools. Determines what adjustments may be necessary to complete work orders, and whether any additional repairs other than those specified or indicated on the work order are necessary. Removes and disassembles engines and complex major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems. Makes the appropriate repairs, overhaul, or modifications in accordance with the proper repair specifications and procedures, and improvises repair techniques when standard procedures are not available. Reassembles engines and other systems, and adjusts, tests, and reinstalls in vehicles and equipment as necessary. Repairs equipment with a variety of interconnected systems to include state of the art electrical and electronic, fuel injection, interconnected gear reduction, multiple engine, and similarly complex systems. Improvises, substitutes, or alters components or parts to fit into systems for which the items were not specially designed or finds other ways to correct defects when existing methods and procedures do not give desired results. Provides technical guidance and specialized team leadership to lower grade employees within the team. Performs operational inspections and ensures vehicles and equipment are properly serviced, including brake adjustments, replacing hydraulic fluids, greasing, cleaning, etc., and performs other preventive maintenance operations as required. Instructs operator/crew in the maintenance of equipment and provides technical advice and assistance to supported units when requested. Performs electrical repairs on complex state of the art electrical and electronic systems requiring extensive training on specialized diagnostic equipment to identify problems. Assists in the maintenance of production reports and records, and makes recommendations to the supervisor. Makes recommendations to the supervisor as to adjustments necessary to effectively, efficiently and economically accomplish the work and maximize production. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Military Rank: Enlisted Compatible Military Assignments: ENL: CMF 12, 13, 14, 19, 25, 88, 91, 92, 94. National Guard Membership is required. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Must have a valid state civilian driver's license. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Medical screening will be completed upon selection for hire. Soldiers who accept a technician position may be terminated from the Bonus and Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP). Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required. The duties and responsibilities of your job may significantly impact the environment. This position is eligible to be in the union: Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 1776. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain NIPR access. Potential for Incentive Pay. Qualifications Your resume must reflect in detail how the duties and responsibilities under each position you have held with each employer meets the below listed general and specialized experience required for the position. *Must include beginning and ending dates of employment stated as MM/YYYY; and total hours worked per week in order to determine part time vs. full time credit. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, simple preventative maintenance tasks, and is able to use common tools and equipment in the line of work. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months of specialized experience diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems. Experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment. Experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems. Experienced in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems. Education Not applicable for this position.
