SUMMARY :

The Cattle Feeding Manager will be responsible for managing the efficient operation of Cattle Feeding programs at a Land & Livestock feedlot to meet productivity and profit objectives. Responsible for the mill crew and feed crew, managing the quantity and quality of feed and proper ration distribution to custom cattle within the feedlot, to ensure overall cattle health and the maximum amount of weight gain.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Develops and implements training plan for new drivers and operators on proper feeding procedures, including operation of equipment. Determines where cross-training may be appropriate to further enhance skill-sets.

• Works with Feedyard maintenance department and IT to ensure the proper preventive and scheduled maintenance on all feed trucks, loaders, scales, and feed system laptop computers. Ensures proper operating techniques by drivers and operators.

• Manage feeding activities, feed crew, and mill crew on a daily basis. Determine daily feed calls after analysis of cattle intake patterns, conditions of feed bunks, and changes in animal behavior and overall health, observed through daily visual inspection of entire feedlot. Ensures prescribed feed rations and quantities are being consistently provided to cattle and makes adjustments as necessary. Consults with Feedlot Management, Feedlot Nutritionist, and Veterinary staff to maximize various cattle feeding objectives.

• Through the use of production software application, monitors the loading of all feedstuffs and placement of feed in correct pens, and subsequently corrects any feed variances. Works with Feedlot Management to maximize feed mill efficiency and determine most efficient feeding routes to minimize fuel usage and truck down-time, and to maximize productivity.

• Consults with Custom Feeding Manager to ensure cattle performance meets customer’s expectations. Works with Feedlot Manager to manage feed inventories and consumption. Forecasts feedstuff requirements on an annual and monthly basis. Works closely with Custom Feeding Manager to understand and implement the feeding plan on various types of custom cattle. Monitors cattle performance on a regular basis and continually works to improve performance.

• Manage activities of feed truck drivers and loader operators to accomplish timely and consistent multiple daily feedings. Maintains a vigilant quality control program to ensure the consistent manufacture and delivery of feed. Ensures all safety procedures are followed including the proper use of PPE and daily equipment inspections and cleanings.

REQUIREMENTS :

• Five plus years related experience and/or training in a large feedlot or dairy environment.

• Knowledgeable in the areas of animal feed and nutrition, animal health, and cattle conditions generally acquired with a broad scope of experience.

• Bilingual candidate highly preferred.

• Ability to load and operate a feed truck required.

• Previous management experience required with the ability to manage 20 – 30 employees on the feed and mill crews.
