The primary function of a police officer is directed towards service to and interaction with the public and the community of Meridian City. The service function is directed towards providing a sense of safety and security within the City through enforcement actions, conflict resolution and mediation of disputes, order maintenance, and the protection of life and property. An employee in this class functions under general supervision and must exercise a wide latitude of discretion in relation to the performance of duties, while maintaining professional integrity and adhering to: department policy and procedure, the law enforcement code and canons of ethics, all applicable laws, and the provisions of the Idaho State and United States Constitutions. The work does involve an element of personal danger and an employee in this class must be able to react quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.\ \ Essential Duties & Responsibilities:\ \ Enforces Idaho State laws and Meridian City ordinances;\ \ Issues warnings or citations for offenses;\ \ Serves summons, warrants, and other related court orders;\ \ Makes arrests;\ \ Investigates felonies and misdemeanors, interviews witnesses, and takes necessary action;\ \ Prepares reports and files on assigned cases, collects, processes and stores evidence, including police photographs;\ \ Works to provide conflict resolution and mediation of disputes;\ \ Provides for order maintenance;\ \ Responds to public requests for assistance;\ \ Provides for the protection of life and property;\ \ Promotes a sense of safety and security within the community;\ \ Patrols specific area(s) in assigned patrol car;\ \ Checks business and residences for suspicious conditions;\ \ Controls crowds and directs traffic at public functions, advises patrol of places where assistance is needed;\ \ Obtains search and arrest warrants, provides testimony in court, assists with prosecution;\ \ Attends training sessions and meetings;\ \ Contacts other law enforcement agencies to obtain or give information related to public safety;\ \ Performs other related duties as assigned.
