Description of Specialty: Under the supervision of the Director of Sports Nutrition, the position of Team Sports Dietitian assists in the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and management of the performance nutrition services provided to University of Minnesota intercollegiate student-athletes, specifically women's basketball. Providing individual medical nutrition therapy, team and departmental educational presentations to enhance the performance of competitive collegiate student-athletes. Coordinate nutritional care as a member of a multidisciplinary health and performance team of Athletic Trainers, Physicians, Athletic Performance Coaches, Sports Psychologists, Coaches, and other Athletic Department personnel. Address nutrition-related logistical challenges to performance, such as training table nutrition, hydration, grocery store shopping, as well as nutrition while traveling. There will be additional duties assigned by the Director of Sports Nutrition as needed. Supervision: Incumbents in this position may have the authority to perform or to effectively recommend the following actions: hire, transfer, suspend, promote, discharge, assign work, reward, discipline, direct the work of other employees. Incumbents who do not have supervisory authority may be assigned to mentor/coach or provide guidance, lead project teams, committees and/or other collaborative efforts, interview applicants, assign schedules, direct work, and/or evaluate the work of colleagues and/or co-workers. Job Duties: * 50% Conduct individual counseling sessions with a diverse group of collegiate student-athletes. Ascertain nutrition diagnosis and develop individualized patient protocols based upon unique needs of student-athletes. Interpret medical and performance data, make medical recommendations, and create workflows and patient protocols utilizing best practices, education, and evidence-based practice. Work collaboratively with athletic medicine, athletic performance, and sport psychology to determine individual outcomes for student-athletes. Assess, evaluate, and refine protocols based on critical review of measurable outcomes. * 15% In conjunction with WBB managers and nutrition students, manage the day-to-day operations of the basketball fueling station, including scheduling and oversight of interns and managers as appropriate. Approve orders, manage inventory, and make decisions regarding new products. Research, recommend, and approve any 3rd party tested supplements available to the student-athletes to ensure compliance with NCAA Bylaw 10.2 regarding banned substances. * 15% In conjunction with the Director of Basketball Operations, forecast, develop, and track the team's nutrition budget. Oversee menu development and relationships with catering, 3rd party vendors, and hotel staff for home and away contests as needed. Manage Red Card program for student-athletes to ensure compliance with and understanding of how to utilize the program appropriately. Travel with the women's basketball team as appropriate. * 15% Under the direct supervision of the Director of Sports Nutrition, coordinate and deliver nutrition education content department wide on a variety of topics that further the mission of providing care to Division 1 student-athletes and support staff such as athletic medicine, strength and conditioning, and sport psychology. * 5% Collaborate ith the Director of Sports Nutrition and Team Sports Dietitian on the hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluation of undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate interns and managers with varying backgrounds and educational levels to support the mission of serving our student-athletes. Other Duties as Assigned 1. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Nutrition. 2. Know and understand NCAA rules related to student-athlete health and safety and commitment to follow those rules. 3. Assist in advancing the department's mission, vision, and strategic plan including its commitment to equity and diversity. 4. Ability to offer direction, insight, and forward thinking as college athletics continues to evolve at a rapid pace. Hourly rate for this position is $22.84 - $24.04. Qualifications Required Qualifications: * BA/BS degree or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four years. Minnesota Board of Dietetics and Nutrition Practice licensure (or eligible upon hire). * Previous experience working with collegiate student-athletes at the Division 1 level. Preferred Qualifications: * Division I sports nutrition experience with basketball. * Working towards or already acquired CSSD * Knowledge of NCAA, Big Ten, and University rules, policies, and procedures About the Department With more than 140 years of tradition, Gopher Athletics is one of the oldest and most decorated athletics departments in the country.
