University of Pennsylvania Vice Chair of Education with Research – Associate/Full Professor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position in either the non-tenure clinician educator track or the tenure track. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. ABA certification in anesthesiology along with ability to obtain a Pennsylvania license are required. Rank will be commensurate with experience.

Teaching responsibilities may include the instruction of medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through the operating rooms of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) as well as participation in in lectures, small groups, workshops, simulation sessions, teaching, and/or mentoring.

Clinical responsibilities may include the provision of general anesthesia at HUP and PPMC.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include collaborative and/or independent research resulting in publications and grants.

The Vice Chair of Education is also responsible for overseeing the educational efforts of the Department, including: overseeing the educational programs of the core residency, fellowships, and medical student rotations; overseeing the Grand Rounds schedule; developing the yearly Education Office budget; promoting educational research in the Department; participating in the recruitment of potential residents and fellows; and reporting to Perelman School of Medicine leadership regarding the medical student experience across rotations at HUP and CHOP. In addition, the Vice Chair of Education serves on the Anesthesia Leadership Team (ALT), serves on the Department Committee on Appointments and Promotions (DCOAP), advising the Chair on matters pertaining to undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education, undertaking additional assignments at the discretion of the Chair, and coordinating efforts with other Vice Chairs of Education across Departments via monthly meetings.

The Vice Chair of Education works closely with the Department Chair to oversee, promote, and facilitate excellence in educational efforts across all aspects of the Department. The Vice Chair of Education is responsible for creating and maintaining a strong educational environment that embraces undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education. The Vice Chair of Education will work closely with the Department Chair, the Departmental leadership team, and related leaders in the Perelman School of Medicine.
