Job Appointment: Regular, Full time
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm. Alternate schedule may be available.
Work Location: Hybrid. In-person work to be conducted at The Vanport Building located at 1810 SW 5th Avenue. Remote work must be performed within Oregon or Washington. About the Position:
The Bureau of Planning and Sustainability (BPS) is seeking a Communication Strategist (Coordinator II) to create, launch, and oversee communications campaigns for the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund (PCEF). This position will assist with the design and production of compelling materials including social-media copy, print collateral, reports, e-newsletters, online content, and interactive engagement tools. The PCEF Communication Strategist will work closely with PCEF and BPS Communications teams in support of communications needs and in keeping the PCEF website up-to-date.
A critical function of the Communications Strategist is that of storyteller. The successful applicant has the essential role of finding unique and captivating stories among PCEF workplans to showcase stories that both educate and captivate. In collaboration with the PCEF Senior Communications Strategist, this position will organize and execute communications planning, marketing, and materials production with discretion and awareness of intergovernmental and community issues.
As the Communications Strategist, you will:
Oversee Web content management for PCEF: Post Web content for PCEF teams including stories written by PCEF Communications staff, events, PCEF Committee meeting agendas, and more.
Create and launch communications campaigns: Meet regularly with assigned teams and supervisor to understand critical needs, project goals, and timelines. Develop and implement creative storytelling campaigns that advance BPS and PCEF goals, including writing/editing stories about grants, grantees, and projects, drafting social media and Web copy, and maintaining a PCEF editorial calendar.
Tell captivating stories: Use creative and community-centered approaches to tell compelling stories of work done on the PCEF team. Assess and utilize appropriate platforms to determine where stories should be told and amplified while increasing public awareness and highlighting achievements.
Oversee online and print content: Maintain and populate PCEF’s channels of communication, including digital platforms and collateral development, including writing, editing, and posting content for website, reports, presentations, brochures, social media, and program guides.

To Qualify
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
Experience utilizing verbal and written communication and storytelling skills, including presenting information clearly, concisely, and persuasively to internal and external stakeholders.
Experience developing and implementing culturally conscious and competent communications and outreach with an equity lens.
Experience writing copy for social media, Web, and communications collateral.
Progressively responsible experience involving media relations, writing, editing, multimedia communications, and/or program marketing.

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will receive an email with instructions to submit two writing samples:

A communications piece of your choice that you are proud of.
Applicants will have one week to attach their writing samples to their application.
Each writing sample should be no more than two (2) pages
Each writing sample should be in a Word or PDF document. No zipped files or links will be accepted.
*Please note, your writing sample will be reviewed during the interview process.
Step 4: Establishment of Eligible List: Week of June 3, 2024
Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and submitted their writing sample will be placed on the equally ranked eligible list.
You have 14 days from the notice of the minimum qualification evaluation results to let us know if you like to review and discuss your evaluation result.
