Job Summary

Create and manage usable items for use in online collections of the J. Willard Marriott Library. This includes digitizing and post-processing a wide range of media, including film, audio tape, transparencies, books, and loose leaf material. Some troubleshooting of hardware and software issues may also be required. Must work and communicate well in a team environment.

This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at the Marriott Library if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms.

For the Library to be able to appropriately monitor hours worked, part-time employees are generally asked to restrict their work with the University of Utah to Library employment only, unless an exception is granted.

Responsibilities

Scan various material using digital scanners, recorders, and cameras. Post-process images to meet online and/or archival needs. Document technical and descriptive information for online assets onto spreadsheets. Import items into an online digital asset management system and perform quality control. Maintain production area in a neat and orderly condition. Exhibit the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Exhibit attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a current University of Utah student enrolled 6 undergraduate credit hours or 5 graduate credit hours during the fall and spring semesters.

Preferences

  • Ability to operate a PC and Mac computers and digitization equipment.

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, and Excel.

  • Working knowledge of flatbed/slide scanners, cameras, and other digitization hardware.
